Area 6 - Who?

Hopefully the below may answer a few of your questions....

What regions are covered by Area 6?map.jpg

BSPS Area 6 covers the counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.  We are one of the smallest areas within BSPS but are packed full of top quality ponies and riders that more that do the area proud year upon year.  When becoming a member of BSPS it is up to the individual to choose which area they wish to be part of but usually this is the area in closest proximity to the individual home location.  As an area we are always open to new members and everyone whatever their age and ability are always more than welcome.

Do Area 6 hold any shows in their region?

BSPS Area 6 hold a number of shows a year amongst other events.  Currently Area 6 primarily holds their shows at Solihull Riding Club as this provides a central location for the area and provides excellent facilities all year round.   We have two winter shows, one usually at the end of January/start of February and one in October/November. A spring show holding RIHS qualifiers in March and our summer show with HOYS and RIHS qualifiers in the summer. All schedules and dates can be found under ‘shows’ on this website as soon as they are available.  All shows have a wide range of classes for all ages and classification of pony and rider.

Who runs BSPS Area 6?

BSPS Area 6 is run by a committee, formed by members of the area and willing volunteers that offer their time and commitment to the running and success of the area completely free of charge.   The area has a chairman, Ms Mary Allison and a Vice Chairman Mr Nick Morgan. The Area Chairman is invited to three meetings a year at the B.S.P.S. Head Office, they attend these meetings in order to report back to the area on any new initiatives and ideas. These meetings also provide the opportunity to discuss any of our members’ views or concerns that could be raised to improve BSPS as a whole, these views then go to Council for further discussion. The area 6 committee are responsible for the area as a whole from organising shows, teach-ins, teams, young judges and points presentations to the end of year accounts and sponsorship for such events.
The area is always grateful of any level of support, from show days and events to being a member of the committee.  If you have any time to spare or have any suggests for improvements to the area please contact a member of the committee or join us at the next meeting, you would be more than welcome!

How is BSPS Area 6 financed?

Your area is financially independent of Head Office. Your Subscriptions to Head Office do not come back to the areas, they are used to run the office and put on championship shows.  Each Area is financed by the profit made by putting on shows (or loss at some Winter Shows). Sponsorship can play a large part in this.  There are certain overheads that have to be met annually by the Areas such as insurance and advertising. The insurance costs approximately £500 per Area and covers all aspects of shows, training days and social events. Different Areas spend their money in different ways to suit the needs of their membership. If you are not sure how the money is being spent please feel free to attend our A.G.M. where the area display full accounts for the year, you would be made more than welcome.
